The Body’s Energy Systems & Our Energy Body

Meridians

Our body’s Chi runs through the body’s meridians. I like to call these the body’s energy highway or energy pathways that transport energy to all the different parts of the body. In the same way that blood vessels transport blood around the body, a meridian carries energy. There are 14 main meridians that carry energy throughout the body and various points along these meridians called acupuncture points which can release or redirect energy within the body. These are the spots that an acupuncturist may use needles to redistribute and balance energy. Each meridian is associated with one of the main physiological systems of the body and has a direct impact on how well those systems do or don’t operate. Apart from the “central” and “governing” meridians, each meridian is paired with another and is named after the organ that it supplies energy to i.e. the liver and gallbladder meridian.

We are so much more than our physical bodys. Our energetic field and energy systems are just as alive and kicking as our physical body and have a huge impact on our health. In fact, everything is made up of energy. Our body, our thoughts, our feelings, our emotions, our beliefs, our conditioning and the patterns we run….it is all energy. We are vibrational beings.

“If you want to know the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” – Nikola Tesla.

Here I’m going to talk about the human ‘Energy Field’ (a big subject I know), and our body’s ‘Energetic Systems’ defined from my own energy/healing perspective.

Our body’s energy systems are made up of Chi. Chi is our ‘life force energy’ and described in Chinese medicine as the fundamental life force that flows through all and everything. This energy instructs the physical body about how to structure itself and function.

Most people have heard of acupuncture which works on increasing your life force energy. This energy is unseen to the naked eye, as is the electricity that turns on our lights, and the energy that supplies a signal to our mobile phone. We can’t see this energy, but we know when it’s there and when it’s not! There are many different books on each of the energy systems I mention here which all deserve a much more thorough overview, but I hope the following gives you some basic insight.

“In every culture and in every medical tradition before ours, healing was accomplished by moving energy.”Albert Szent-Gyorgyi (1960) Hungarian Scientist

Chakras

Energy coming into our meridians comes via our Chakras. So the amount of energy coming in is regulated by these energy centres of which there are 7 main chakras – coming from the base of your spine to just above the top of your head. All the chakras interrelate with each other but also have their own characteristics and relate to different emotions and functions in the body. Each one has its’ own colour, Sanskrit name and individual vibration. The energy of each chakra also spins in a particular direction.

The Auric Field / Energy Body

Along with the meridians and chakras we also have our Auric energy field going out from the body.

Along with the meridians and chakras we also have our Auric energy field going out from the body. You’ve probably heard some people describe this as your aura or energy body.

The energy flow within our energy field is vital to good health, it’s the body’s magic! What is happening in our energy field impacts our physical health and greatly effects the way we feel. It consists of many different layers, all of which connect into our chakras which directly provide our physical body with energy via the meridians.

Your aura is an electromagnetic field of energy that graduates out all around your body. It interconnects with all the different layers of your energy field (of which there are many) and is a good indicator of an individual’s overall health; the bigger and brighter it is, the stronger your ‘life force’ energy - making you feel more alive, present and energised. If you have a weak, depleted aura your energy will most likely feel sluggish and fatigued.

Everyone has their own unique aura emitting its’ own energetic pattern, colour and vibration. Have you ever walked into a room of people and immediately felt good or maybe not so good about the atmosphere of that room or the feeling you get from the people in that room? What you feel, (good or bad) would be picking up on the ‘Energy field’ of those people or the ‘Energy’ left over in that room from previous people or events.

There is a great deal of reading out there on this subject and if you would like a more detailed scientific understanding of the energy body and how energy medicine works then I would recommend Bruce Lipton (cell biologist) ‘The Biology of Belief’ and James L. Oschman ‘Energy Medicine – The Scientific Basis’.
